Using 1964-1983 enrollment data for a small Michigan state college, this paper charts tuition rate change impacts on college undergraduate headcounts and credit hours over time. (TE)

Farago, John M. – Journal of Higher Education, 1982
David Riesman's "On Higher Education: The Academic Enterprise in an Era of Rising Student Consumerism" is criticized as evading the real issue of the conflict between traditional, self-serving faculty notions of higher education's purpose and the much-changed demands of the student population. (MSE)

Von Recum, Hasso – International Review of Education, 1981
Observing that in affluent societies, education loses its primary significance as an economic investment and increasingly assumes the nature of a private consumer good, the author discusses problems this poses for educational policy development which, in the Federal Republic of Germany, is characterized by conflict between egalitarian and…

Pritchard, Rosalind M. O. – Studies in Higher Education, 1994
Recent attempts to turn British higher education into a market by manipulating funding methodologies are examined, and it is concluded that current government interventionism is at variance with the official policy of encouraging competition and free market forces.
