The evaluation of a juvenile diversion program by Quay and Love (1977) is criticized for employing follow-up periods of differing durations. A second article by Quay and Love responds to Mrad's suggestion that the experimental effect was due to a greater post-program exposure time for the control group. (LPG)

This study examined value differences of violent and nonviolent youthful offenders. Previous research indicated that high rates of violent crime were related to the subculture of violence hypothesis. The study compared the responses of 48 retarded and 48 normal Ss (ages 11 to 14) in a series of eight hypothetical temptation to steal dilemmas. The results indicated that normal Ss resisted significantly more often than retarded Ss, and that the normal Ss generated significantly more legitimate acquisition responses than retarded Ss.
