This program guide outlines the sequential curriculum prescribed by the Department of Education for teachers in the Newfoundland and Labrador schools K-11. The major objective is to present a list of required subjects for each grade level with instructional materials adjunct to the prescribed course identified. Minimal instructions are given to the teacher regarding the program with emphasis on cognitive content. Methods include reading levels for individuals, rather than by grade, for students in grades 1-8, allowing students to progress in keeping with their ability and facilitating grouping. The level system extends into high school courses where two levels, general and academic, are offered in the same subject. Instructional materials listed include teaching guides, textbooks, workbooks, handbooks, and multi-media materials, are enumerated after each subject. A directory of publishers is also provided.
