Restructuring the Community College at the Yorba Linda Education Center.
Taylor, Lyndon E.; Head, Fred L.
An innovative educational program is being planned at the Yorba Linda Campus of the Northern Orange County (California) Community College District in an effort to increase enrollment and improve the financial status of the district. The proposed program involves the following components: (1) the adoption of a trimester-based educational system; (2) the provision of a number of alternative instructional delivery systems; (3) the use of faculty as instructional managers rather than dispensers of information; (4) the enhancement of faculty creativity; (5) diagnostic and prescriptive counseling; (6) a core general education curriculum; (7) a wide range of occupational training options; (8) the eventual development of a "24-hour college," providing access to self-paced instruction at all times; (9) flexible scheduling; (10) modifications of the traditional roles of faculty and students; and (11) the establishment of the Yorba Linda Education Center without reliance on public funds. A critical feature of the project is the generation of cash flow through such outside sources as a sports complex, an equestrian center, land leases, software sales, a child care center, contract education, and community service facilities.
