This introductory French course is intended for students who wish to experiment with a second language before beginning their formal study of French. No writing is required in this audiolingual course. It is expected that the student will develop speaking skills sufficient to allow spontaneous, direct contact with a native speaker. Specific performance objectives are prescribed for these topics: sounds of French, greetings, salutations, self-identification, farewells, identification of people and things, numbers, days, months, dates, clothing, colors, adjectives, time and weather, house and family, sports and recreation, culture, and attitudes. Suggested teaching methods, sample evaluation, and resource materials are included. (RL)
