Technology Education in Maine. Curriculum Guide.
Maine State Dept. of Educational and Cultural Services, Augusta. Bureau of Vocational Education.; University of Southern Maine, Gorham.; Technology Education Association of Maine.
This curriculum guide presents basic definitions, models, and examples as a framework that individual technology education instructors or departments can use to construct their own units, courses, and curricula at any level. An overview describes the development of the model and the content of technology education. Section I explains technology. Section II presents technology as a process. The rationale, goals, and content are set forth for technology education in elementary, middle/junior high, and senior high schools. Section III describes and explains use of the content model for technology education. This section provides information on each of the four content area systems into which the content of technology education has been divided: communications, transportation, production, and energy. For each system, the following are provided: definition; rationale; specific examples at the three levels of development; examples of items specific to that system that constitute the components of technological systems; and an outline for studying the system. Section IV provides information on developing technology learning activities (TLAs). Eleven sample TLAs are included. Components include problem statement, objectives, materials and resources, limitations, procedures, evaluation, and feedback. Appendixes include lists of resources and transparency masters. (YLB)
