Zimmermann, Robert R.; And Others – Psychological Reports, 1974
Final grades in an introductory psychology course were found to correlate significantly with a test representative of course content and ACT scores. (Author)

Magnello, M. Eileen; Spies, Carl J. – 1980
Shepard-Kruskal's nonmetric multidimensional scaling procedure (KYST) is used to discern those statistical concepts which are most confusing and/or ambiguous to graduate students, as well as to determine if a series of lectures in statistics will influence students' responses to more closely approximate those of their professors'. An instrument…

Williams, Richard H.; Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1982
The reliability of simple difference scores is greater than, less than, or equal to that of residualized difference scores, depending on whether the correlation between pretest and posttest scores is greater than, less than, or equal to the ratio of the standard deviations of pretest and posttest scores. Vooijs, Marcel W.; Van der Kamp, Leo J. T. – Evaluation Review, 1991
A two-step procedure is developed for the analysis of pretest-posttest data. Nonlinear canonical correlation analysis is followed by covariance analysis of optimally scaled pretest and posttest measures. The procedure is available in the computer program CANALS. Advantages of the two-step procedure are discussed. (SLD)

Probst, Heidi; Eddy, David; Doughty, Jo; Hodgson, Denyse – E-Learning, 2009
Training health professionals within university environments has traditionally focused on face-to-face methods. Practitioners working within the UK National Health Service (NHS) have found it difficult to gain leave from work to attend for study due to the demands of the NHS and staff shortages. In response, the authors developed a distance…

Heneman, Karrie; Junge, Sharon K.; Zidenberg-Cherr, Sheri – Journal of Child Nutrition & Management, 2008
Objectives: The purpose of this investigation was to complete a formal evaluation of Reading Across My Pyramid (RAMP), a literacy promoting nutrition and health education curriculum. Methods: To meet this need, a short survey, the "Child Survey," based on topics covered in RAMP lessons was developed and tested for clarity in a group of…

Butler, Kyle A.; Lumpe, Andrew – Journal of Science Education and Technology, 2008
This study was designed to theoretically articulate and empirically assess the role of computer scaffolds. In this project, several examples of educational software were developed to scaffold the learning of students performing high level cognitive activities. The software used in this study, Artemis, focused on scaffolding the learning of…

Kozhevnikov, Maria; Thornton, Ronald – Journal of Science Education and Technology, 2006
In this study, we examined how students' levels of spatial visualization ability interact with learning physics in a microcomputer-based laboratory (MBL) environment. Undergraduate students who had taken an introductory physics course based on MBL tools were pre- and posttested at the beginning and at the end of the semester on spatial…

Goethals, George R.; Reckman, Richard F. – Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, 1973
The experiment in this paper attempts to demonstrate that people's errors in recall or distortions of their initial positions are such as to allow them to perceive consistency in their attitudes over time. (Author/RK)

Jamieson, John – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
Computer simulations indicate that the correlation between baseline and change, by itself, does not invalidate the use of gain scores to measure change, but when the negative correlation is accompanied by decrease in variance from pretest to posttest, covariance is a superior measure of change. Lievens, Filip; Sackett, Paul R. – Journal of Applied Psychology, 2007
This study used principles underlying item generation theory to posit competing perspectives about which features of situational judgment tests might enhance or impede consistent measurement across repeat test administrations. This led to 3 alternate-form development approaches (random assignment, incident isomorphism, and item isomorphism). The…

Vander Kooi, Daryl – 1998
Using the Watson-Barker Listening Test Form A and Form B as pretest and posttest at the freshman level, this research attempted to determine whether the two forms of the test and the differences between pretest and posttest would be significant predictors of students' final grade point average (GPA). Each form of the test was taken by 190 students…

Linn, Robert L.; Slinde, Jeffrey A. – Review of Educational Research, 1977
Problems in measuring change abound. For many purposes, a pretest score is best treated as any other measure obtained at the time of the pretest. Where appropriate, regression analyses that treat the pretest no differently from other independent variables, and the posttest as the dependent variable avoid many difficulties introduced by gain…

Rim, Eui-Do; Bresler, Samuel – 1974
Livingston's reliability coefficients and Harris' indices of efficiency were computed along with the classical internal consistency coefficients, KR-20's (Kuder-Richardson internal consistency coefficient), for 678 criterion-referenced tests in the A through E levels of an individualized mathematics program. The coefficients were carefully studied…

Harris, Deborah J.; Subkoviak, Michael J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
This study examined three statistical methods for selecting items for mastery tests: (1) pretest-posttest; (2) latent trait; and (3) agreement statistics. The correlation between the latent trait method and agreement statistics, proposed here as an alternative, was substantial. Results for the pretest-posttest method confirmed its reputed…
