Sponsored by the Santa Barbara Underseas Foundation, this manual is for people who want to adapt their own lifestyles so as to be less a part of the environmental deterioration problem and more a part of the solution. It presents suggestions that are physical and psychological changes individuals can make to ease the burden of pollution, waste, overpopulation, and resource depletion. The emphasis is on consumption--overconsumption, underconsumption, and nonconsumption--as the core of the immense waste problem in the United States. "Resources To Be Conserved" is the major topic discussing packaging materials, wood and paper products, solid waste disposal, petroleum products, air, water, minerals, food, food scraps, endangered wildlife, and land. Other topics include consumer power, pollutants, political action, and population. Recommended information and action sources are also given. (BL)
