This guide provides a detailed description of the development of a competency-based guidance program instituted by the guidance staff of the Andrews Independent School District. Its primary purpose is to bring the guidance program into focus in achieving maximum instructional goals by stressing preventative and developmental methods, rather than corrective, as the best approach to helping students. The Guidance Program is seen as one of the strongest facilitating agents within the educational system for reaching the goals of the educational process, striving to give every individual a feeling of self-worth and dignity, helping him to understand and accept himself, enabling him to develop fully his potential, and helping him achieve greater self-direction in situations where he must exercise choice.
