Hypothesis tested is that the expectancy of internal control is a function of the individual's present role, his immediate context, and the saliency of the role and context. When compared to the 1972 sample, the 1979 sample desired fewer children, was more accepting of nonparenting decisions, expressed more uncertainty regarding desire for parenting as a factor in selection of a mate, and appeared less concerned about overpopulation. In a sample of college students, self-related exploration was positively related to satisfaction with the occupational decision of low anxiety students and negatively related to satisfaction among high anxiety students.
