Bauminger-Zviely, Nirit; Alon, Mor; Brill, Alit; Schorr-Edelsztein, Hani; David, Tzuriel; Tubul, Gila; Al-Yagon, Michal – Journal of Special Education, 2019
The present study examined the role of language capacities in explaining differences in social information processing (SIP) among three school-age groups: high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD, IQ > 75), children with specific learning disorder (SLD), and children with typical development (TD). Participants were 96 boys…

Farran, Emily K.; Branson, Amanda; King, Ben J. – Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders, 2011
Facial expression recognition was investigated in 20 males with high functioning autism (HFA) or Asperger syndrome (AS), compared to typically developing individuals matched for chronological age (TD CA group) and verbal and non-verbal ability (TD V/NV group). This was the first study to employ a visual search, "face in the crowd" paradigm with a…

Camp, Bonnie W. – Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1977
Aggressive and normal boys from 77 to 97 months of age were compared on measures of verbal ability, types of self-guiding speech, nonverbal intelligence, reading achievement, impulsivity, ability to inhibit responses, and response modulation following overt and covery commands. It is hypothesized that both learning and behavior problems in…

Friedrich, William N.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Compared physically abused male preschoolers (N=11) with nonabused matched controls on the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities and the Wide Range Achievement Test. Significant differences were found on the Verbal and Memory Scales and the General Cognitive Index of the McCarthy. No behavioral differences were noted. (Author/JAC)

Lohman, David F. – 1979
Previous research on the nature of aptitude processes had ignored the important differences between speed and level of performance. However, investigations of the relationship between individual differences in speed and level suggest that speed of solving simple spatial tasks is largely independent of level attained on more complex spatial tasks.…

Shelton, M. D.; And Others – Journal of Gerontology, 1982
Examined the hypothesis that aging and hemispheric laterality interact to produce relatively greater decrements in older individuals in right hemispheric dominant (visuospatial) than left hemispheric dominant (verbal) tasks in 24 early middle-aged and 24 older males. Data did not support the notion of a laterality effect associated with aging.…

Kirby, John R.; Das, J. P. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1977
Reading comprehension and vocabulary scores, and verbal and nonverbal IQ were significantly related to both simultaneous and successive processing ability in fourth grade Canadian boys. High levels of both types of processing ability are necessary for high achievement; high levels of one type only will result in moderate achievement. (Author/GDC)

Kimura, Doreen – 1999
This book describes the major differences between men and women in cognitive or problem-solving abilities and discusses the possible biological contributions to such differences. The book argues that sex differences in cognitive patterns and in motor skills arose out of complementary evolutionary histories of men and women and that evidence for…
