Waroquier, Laurent; Abadie, Marlène; Blaye, Agnès – Developmental Psychology, 2022
Evaluative conditioning (EC) refers to a change in liking of a conditioned stimulus (CS) consecutive to its repeated pairing with a valent unconditioned stimulus (US). We relied on a multinomial processing tree model to compare the processes underlying EC in middle-aged children (n = 57, M[subscript age] = 8.65, range = 6.94-11.03; 31 females) and…

Brown, Esther L.; Shin, Naomi – First Language, 2022
Child language acquisition research has provided ample evidence of lexical frequency effects. This corpus-based analysis introduces a novel frequency measure shown to significantly constrain adult language variation, but heretofore unexplored in child language acquisition research. Among adults, frequent occurrence of a form in a particular…

de Rose, Julio C.; Hidalgo, Matheus; Vasconcellos, Mariliz – Psychological Record, 2013
Variation in baseline controlling relations is suggested as one of the factors determining variability in stimulus equivalence outcomes. This study used single- comparison trials attempting to control such controlling relations. Four children learned AB, BC, and CD conditional discriminations, with 2 samples and 2 comparison stimuli. In Condition…

Almeida-Verdu, Ana Claudia; Huziwara, Edson M.; de Souza, Deisy G.; de Rose, Julio C.; Bevilacqua, Maria Cecilia; Lopes, Jair, Jr.; Alves, Cristiane O.; McIlvane, William J. – Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 2008
This four-experiment series sought to evaluate the potential of children with neurosensory deafness and cochlear implants to exhibit auditory-visual and visual-visual stimulus equivalence relations within a matching-to-sample format. Twelve children who became deaf prior to acquiring language (prelingual) and four who became deaf afterwards…

Wermer, Maaike – Exceptional Parent, 2008
More than 400 children with a physical and/or mental challenge visit the Curacao Dolphin Therapy and Research Center (CDTC) for dolphin-assisted therapy every year. Dolphin therapy appears to be the right approach for many children. With the help of these special and very social animals, it is easier to make contact with the children. It motivates…

Sharpley, Christopher F. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1987
The reactions of 84 elementary students to the hypothetical administration of rewards were studied. The subjects were interviewed under two experimental conditions: direct contingent rewards (DCR) and implicit rewards (IR). Results showed that students did not attribute others with the same sense of fairness in regard to IR conditions. (JAZ)

le Roux, Johann; Smith, Cheryl Sylvia – Adolescence, 1998
Attempts to identify the psychological characteristics that predispose certain children to run away and to survive, often for long periods, on the streets of South Africa. Examines vulnerability and resilience as well as social conditions that mediate the psychological predisposition to become a street child. (Author/GCP)
