Navigating Comprehensive School Change: A Guide for the Perplexed.
Chenoweth, Thomas G.; Everhart, Robert B.
Leadership for school change, this book contends, must be shared. Administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and community members must become more knowledgeable about the change process and more proficient at working through it. This book provides guidance and resources for school leadership teams and practitioners and students of change. The contents are based on recent empirical literature on school change, focusing on best practices. Chapter 1 provides an outline of the assumptions the authors used in compiling the book. Chapter 2 discusses the processes of forming leadership teams and capacity-building. Chapter 3 focuses on building commitment. Chapter 4 discusses implementing change. Chapter 5 discusses the process of sustaining change. Chapter 6 addresses evaluating the implementation of change. Chapter 7 pulls together the major themes of the book. Chapter 8 returns to the literature on school change summarized in chapter 1. Each chapter begins with chapter highlights and ends with a list of references. Most chapters include a chapter summary. The volume contains a variety of graphic elements to aid understanding and skimming: subheads, extracts, sidebars, boxes, rules, charts, graphs, tables, and sample forms. The final section is an extensive annotated list of resources. (Contains an index.) (WFA)
