This qualitative study explored, from a case study perspective, early college high school principals' viewpoints on leadership characteristics and best practices that influence a school culture and school climate. Through an analysis of participant interviews and data collection, themes were identified regarding best practices and characteristics for creating a positive school culture and school climate. These themes were: Building Relationships and Communications, Ambiance, Unified Customs and Practices, Visibility, An Empowering and Safe Environment, Risk Taking, Leadership Style, Time Management and Policy Change, Leadership is Constantly Changing, Setting High Expectations, Understanding Your Role and Accountability, Stability, and Parental/Family Involvement is Essential. This qualitative study used the phenomenological approach to explore the lived experiences of study participants in their role as leaders of an early college high school. The study provided some of the best practices principals used to build and promote a positive school culture and climate in their respective schools. The literature reflected the need to establish and promote a positive school climate and school culture to ensure students grow academically and socially. The literature suggested that the involvement of school and community stakeholders were critical elements in establishing and maintaining a school environment conducive for learning. All these elements were critical ingredients in promoting academic and social advancement of its students.
