Laura Chittle; Aliyah King; Siddhartha Sood; Isabelle Hinch; Chris Houser; Dora Cavallo-Medved – Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2024
There has been a growing discourse within higher education to engage with students as partners and harness the strength of students and faculty working together. Engaging in student-faculty partnerships activities offers benefits to both students and faculty, yet there is less research on these practices within science, technology, engineering and…

Norris, Meghan E.; Herrewynen, Megan R. V. – Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2023
Are students ready for jobs when it comes time to graduation? This is a common question, and one that is often addressed in the media (e.g., Collie, 2019). Despite psychology being one of the most popular degree plans for undergraduate students (e.g., Higher Education Research Institute, 2008), many students in undergraduate psychology programs…

Thayer, Yvonne; Carliner, Saul; Driscoll, Margaret – COABE Journal: The Resource for Adult Education, 2021
In 2017, the authors began research for a book that would suggest training needs for the U.S. and Canadian workforce in the coming decades. Early in the research process they realized there was much more to understand in an evolving workplace than the call for reskilling workers. Workers would face many decisions influencing their careers while…

Andrews, Joy; Ramji, Karima – International Journal of Work-Integrated Learning, 2020
While the fields of work-integrated learning (WIL) and career development share common goals, WIL literature tends to focus on student employability more than students' ability to manage their careers. The Leading Edge program at a Canadian institution, the University of Victoria, brings together these two disciplines as it draws from theory and…

Alexis Carr; Catherine Beaudry – Journal of Learning for Development, 2023
International mobility programmes, both in-person and virtual, aim to build human capital. Though there is evidence of their impact on skill development, there is scant research on career and professional benefits. Moreover, because virtual mobility is a new concept, there has been little investigation into how this mode affects the perceived…

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Hope-Action Inventory (HAI) scores with a problematic substance use population (N = 783). The hierarchical seven-factor structure of the HAI fit the data well. Further, the HAI scores had satisfactory internal consistency reliability and good convergent evidence for validity.

Maya Borhani – in education, 2021
Amongst a group of poet-scholar friends, all of us students of the American poet Robert Bly, we often speak of our "gratitude to old teachers," the title from one of Bly's (1999) poems. We cherish a meditative awareness of deeply rooted presences holding us up, buoying us as we stride across "Water that once could take no human…

UK Department for Education, 2021
International policy and practice reviews support policy development by learning what works, in what contexts, and why. They also provide the opportunity to consider how that learning might be effectively translated to the English context. Three years after the publication of the 2017 Careers Strategy (ED612489) (Department for Education, 2017),…

Oliveira, Íris M.; Araújo, Alexandra M. – British Journal of Guidance & Counselling, 2022
Career exploration enables children to gain self- and occupational knowledge, and to assign meaning to what is learnt at school.
