Discusses two important theoretical notions about work training and adjustment: (1) a theory of career development by Crites and Super and (2) Rotter's social learning theory, as it relates to locus of control. This study examines the criterion-related and construct validity of the Career Maturity Inventory Competence Test, administered to 260 ninth-grade pupils. Results show the Competence Test is more highly correlated with the Cognitive Vocational Maturity Test than it is with the Attitude Scale. (Author)

High school males (N=66) and 60 high school females were tested for anxiety and vocational maturity levels. The experimental subjects were given the Self Directed Search (SDS). Statistical analysis indicated that the SDS was an effective instrument in reducing career indecision. (Author)
