Court cases dealing with school desegregation have become increasingly complex over the years. The major portion of this paper highlights six of those cases, which provide a picture of the shifting positions of the federal judiciary on the subject. The purpose of the discussion is to allow school administrators to incorporate the current law into school district practice. Specific problems connected with school desegregation, like the problem of busing, are also explored. The paper concludes that educational administrators have played a key role in helping racial minorities in the past two decades. It recommends that new forms of cooperation be developed among a variety of educational agencies. (Author/LD)
