The twenty-three contributors to this volume show that, despite racism, American blacks have independently developed some of their own cultural strengths. If these are correctly harnessed, they could provide important resources for the revitalization and development of the black community. The four parts of which this book is comprised are: (1) "The Movement"; (2) "Racial Exclusiveness and Denial: the Results"; (3) "Black Culture"; and, (4) "Black Action." Part I assesses the Civil Rights movement and its failures. Part II provides new appraisals of old subjects which have undergone considerable change via the Black Revolution. Part III proposes means of viewing the vitality of Afro-American culture, especially as it emerges from the black lower class. Part IV contains a number of polemic discussions and proposals of new strategies for black community organization and revitalization. (Editor/DM)
