The Effect of Tonal Pattern Training on the Aural Perception, Reading Recognition, and Melodic Sight-Reading Achievement of First-Year Instrumental Music Students.
Grutzmacher, Patricia Ann
Journal of Research in Music Education, v35 n3 p171-81 Fall 1987
This study investigated the relationship of tonal pattern to tonal concept development and performance achievement of beginning instrumentalists. Tonal concept development was compared with technical skill development. Results indicate that tonal concept development improved the melodic sight-reading skills more successfully than the traditional method of technical skill development. (BSR)
