We use data from Sierra Leone where a substantial education program provided increased access to education for primary-school age children but did not benefit children who were older. We exploit the variation in access to the program generated by date of birth and the variation in resources between various districts of the country. We find that…

Collins, Georgia C. – Studies in Art Education, 1979
Collins considers the paradox that masculine domination of the arts has not altered popular identification of art as a "feminine" and therefore low-status activity. She reviews writings on gender identification in art and examines approaches for increasing women's participation in art and art education without further lowering art's status. (SJL)

Luetgert, M. J.; And Others – 1975
It has been theorized that feminist movements have failed because they focused on legal and political reforms and ignored the influence of domestic roles. Five hundred thirty persons completed a 125-item questionnaire which generated "desire for change" scores on two scales: (1) sex roles "in the home" and (2) sex roles "out of the home." A…

Herman, Judith – 1984
Rates of sexual assault on women are sufficiently high that women live with a lifelong, pervasive fear of violence. Research has just begun to identify and analyze the health and mental health effects of sexual assault on victims, and studies are investigating the social and individual motivations of perpetrators. This document contains a…

Giordano, Peggy C.; Cernkovich, Stephen A. – Social Problems, 1979
Data from a questionnaire administered in three urban high schools and two state institutions for girls suggest that there is little association between liberated attitudes and self-reported delinquency involvement. However, females' tendency to commit delinquent acts in groups, and their explanations for their participation, depart from…

Dabrowski, Irene – Social Behavior and Personality, 1985
Tested the assumption that there is a relationship between attitudes toward feminists and exposure to university courses on feminism. Results of t-test analysis indicate that attitudes of students exposed to feminist courses changed in a more positive direction, though this positive attitude was not solely dependent on the courses. (Author/ABB)

Cutler, Stephen J. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1983
Examines changes in attitudinal support for the women's liberation movement from 1972-1976. Attitudes in all age groups became more favorable, but shifts were greater among the older members of the panel. The findings provide no support for the notions that attitudes become more conservative with aging. (Author)

Rosen, R. A. Hudson; Martindale, Lois J. – 1975
The paper focuses on the relationship between changing societal norms and actual, emotional acceptance of them for oneself, with regard to changing norms toward women's roles as they relate to the areas of abortion and sexual behavior. Elective abortion still is regarded by many as a "deviant" activity. Such a view has sprung from an uncritical…

Rhome, Frances Dodson – 1972
A look at some English and American dictionaries and encyclopedias affirms the charge of "Manglish"--a male orientation of the English language. Sex stereotypes are manifested in occupational titles, certain cultural notions, and societal attitudes which are reflected in our language. School texts and dictionaries perpetuate this sexism and…
