One Small Blue Bead.
Schweitzer, Byrd Baylor
Written in poetry, this children's story focuses upon the shared dreams of an old man and a young boy who are prehistoric cave dwellers living in the southwestern part of the United States. The poem's theme centers upon the question of whether or not there are people other than those of this particular tribe living on the earth. This question is resolved when, after a long search, the old man returns to the tribe with a young boy who is wearing a single blue bead around his neck. The bead, then, is given to the boy who belongs to the tribe of cave dwellers, and it becomes the symbol of shared dreams. (JC)
