Andic, Branko; Cvjeticanin, Stanko; Maricic, Mirjana; Steševic, Danijela – Journal of Biological Education, 2021
Although very rare, the existing research on the biological education of blind people indicates that teaching content is not fully in line with the sensory perception of that content by the blind. The aim of this study is to analyse the morphological details which the blind can register in multisensory plant research and to harmonise the…

Gori, Monica; Giuliana, Luana; Sandini, Giulio; Burr, David – Developmental Science, 2012
It is still unclear how the visual system perceives accurately the size of objects at different distances. One suggestion, dating back to Berkeley's famous essay, is that vision is calibrated by touch. If so, we may expect different mechanisms involved for near, reachable distances and far, unreachable distances. To study how the haptic system…

Davidson, Philip W.; And Others – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1981
All Ss' accuracy decreased with increasing task difficulty. Accuracy of nonretarded Ss did not differ as a function of visual status. Blind retarded Ss were more accurate than were sighted retarded Ss. (Author)

Griffith, Penny L.; And Others – Journal of the Association for the Severely Handicapped, 1983
Signs selected from lists used in studies with mentally retarded and autistic children and previously rated for visual iconicity were presented tactilely to 13 blind adults and adolescents. Visual and tactile ratings were found to be very similar across blind, deaf, and hearing-sighted adults and hearing-sighted children. (Author/CL)

Kern, Janet K.; Trivedi, Madhukar H.; Grannemann, Bruce D.; Garver, Carolyn R.; Johnson, Danny G.; Andrews, Alonzo A.; Savla, Jayshree S.; Mehta, Jyutika A.; Schroeder, Jennifer L. – Autism: The International Journal of Research & Practice, 2007
This study examined the relationship between auditory, visual, touch, and oral sensory dysfunction in autism and their relationship to multisensory dysfunction and severity of autism. The Sensory Profile was completed on 104 persons with a diagnosis of autism, 3 to 56 years of age. Analysis showed a significant correlation between the different…

Hunstad, Egil – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1985
Visualized braille was presented on closed circuit television (CCTV) to six blind tactile braille reading subjects (ages 12-50). Results supported cross-modal transfer of learning from tactile to visual modality. After intensive visual training, these subjects could discriminate visual forms and read ordinary print using the CCTV. (Author/BS)
