They Turned Their Cameras On! Readers Theatre Inspires Young Distance Learners
Flynn, Rosalind M.
Distance Learning, v18 n4 p19-22 2021
Before COVID, the author had led in-person readers theatre residencies with the same four fourth-grade teachers and their large public-school classes for over a decade. During COVID, the teachers wanted to do an online residency. The challenge: how to create theatre with young learners in isolated rooms, sitting alone, and seeing others only on a screen? Each class met once a week for an hour for 5 weeks. The class rehearsed, performed, and recorded readers theatre scripts. This article gives descriptions of what the class did, what worked, and what was learned in the process.
