Increasing applications to U.S. osteopathic and allopathic medical schools requires admissions offices and committees to continual seek new evaluative measures to identify and selective the most qualified applicants for interviews and ultimately admission to their institutions. The use of situational judgement tests (SJTs) help identify applicants with innate abilities in the areas of non-cognitive skills which correlate to positive patient-physician relationships and better health outcomes. Use of these evaluative assessments; however, should not hinder ongoing efforts to diversify the physician pipeline which needs to better reflect the patient populations these professionals will be charged with providing care to. Additionally, these tools only provide valuable information in the selection process to the extent they correlate to students' performance in medical school.
