Saint Anthony Hospital: Infusing Developmental and Family Support Services in Community-Based Medical Practice
Casas, Paula; Isarowong, Nucha
ZERO TO THREE, v35 n6 p29-37 Jul 2015
Physicians affiliated with small community hospitals face numerous barriers to using developmentally oriented best practices in primary care with young children. Saint Anthony Hospital's Developmental Support Project model promotes improved developmental outcomes for children through two complementary strands of services: (a) training and technical assistance for physicians and (b) developmental support and targeted case management for families. The training and technical support component assists physicians in overcoming barriers to using standardized developmental screening tools to monitor their young patients' developmental progress. Developmental consultation and case management services support parents in navigating the early intervention and special education systems and in securing needed services for their young children.
