Making Memories...
Semple, Anne
Teaching Science, v57 n2 p7-10 Jun 2011
In 2001, the Australian Science Teachers Association's (ASTA's) Golden Jubilee year, a special commemorative combined issue of the then "Australian Science Teachers' Journal" (ASTJ) and "Investigating" (Australian Primary and Junior Science Journal), charted ASTA's beginnings and growth, from a "loose affiliation of four state associations to one of the largest and most influential professional associations in Australia", fifty years later (Lucas, p.10, 2001). I recommend this treasure trove to you. Ten years on, we celebrate ASTA's 60th anniversary. This article is not a continuation of ASTA's formal history; it is a snapshot of ASTA through the reminiscences and reflections of a few of the many who played a part in the association at one time or another. The selection is somewhat arbitrary and in no way implies that some "ASTA alumni" (a term I have coined) are more significant than others. The article is necessarily a very much abbreviated and less than systematic collation of responses to assorted questions.
