Music Arranged by Your Large-Ensemble Class
Brame, Daniel
Teaching Music, v12 n4 p56 Feb 2005
In this article, the author discusses how from time to time, directors choose to program certain works for their ensembles because they fit a unit of study or a specific curriculum need. Unfortunately, published editions that are appropriate for the specific band, choir, or orchestra are not always available for a given work. A novel and educational solution is to create an in-class, group arrangement of the piece. While the concept may sound rather daunting, it is quite feasible and very rewarding. In this article, this suggested technique is outlined.
