As an alternative to traditional homework assignments, a junior high school teacher created a weekly four-page booklet containing multidisciplinary basic skills exercises, mainly drawn from newspaper materials. Sample exercises are included. (SJL)

The author describes some of the instructional programs currently available on educational television. She gives special attention to the series "ThinkAbout" for grades five and six, which emphasizes using skills in reasoning, studying, language arts, and math to solve everyday problems. (SJL)

On May 1, 1980, some 20,000 elementary children had their letters and ideas presented to the United States Senate Committee on Child and Human Development to mark the observance of Save the Children Day.
