Upper elementary students visited an exhibit of nude sculpture. Most of the children reacted in a mature way. Activities were used to prepare children for this art appreciation experience. (AM)

Three art activities are described. Intermediate and junior high school students made sculptures from geometric shapes cut from corrugated cardboard; eighth-grade students did freehand drawings using gridiron patterns; and junior and senior high school students studied antique valentines and then made their own. An Artists-in-the-Schools program that involved a sculptor and a photographer in teaching fourth and fifth grade students about shadow and light is described. The arts program was interdisciplinary and involved the language arts of writing, reading, speaking, and developing vocabulary. (RM)

To build public support for art education, the conference chairperson from the Portland (Oregon) Public School's Board of Education invited Portland students to provide table decorations for a banquet to be held at the board's annual state conference. A portrait sculpture inspired by Picasso's work was the result. (RM)
