The Effect of Reading Library Books at Different Levels of Difficulty upon Gain in Reading Ability.
Carver, Ronald P.; Leibert, Robert E.
Reading Research Quarterly, v30 n1 p26-48 Jan-Mar 1995
Investigates whether reading ability improves when students read relatively easy library books. Compares reading achievement of students in grades three, four, and five who read books at either above or below their reading level. Finds no evidence that either group gained in reading ability. Notes that later empirical evidence indicated no actual difference in readability of the books. (RS)
