Teaching Literacy to English Language Learners in the Borderlands: A Case Study of A Sixth Grade Language Arts and Reading Teacher
Smith, Ann Marie; Salgado, Yolanda
Reading Improvement, v55 n1 p15-31 Spr 2018
The purpose of this case study was to investigate how an English language arts teacher used young adult literature to help English language learners improve English and literacy comprehension. Through the lens of Anzaldua's (2007) "borderlands", and Rolon-Dow's (2005) "critical care", the authors analyze the case study teacher's methods for helping her students comprehend texts more effectively while negotiating the school's English-only boundaries.
