Determining the Level of Student Engagement among Transfer Students as It Relates to Persistence
Sydnei L. Patton
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Jackson State University
This research study explored the level of student engagement that transfer students experience and how these levels can predict their persistence. This quantitative study utilized secondary data from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). George Kuh's Theory of Student Engagement guided this study and influenced the development of the NSSE survey. Data from over 11,000 transfer students' responses to the NSSE survey was analyzed through a logistic regression analysis to answer four research questions and determine if transfer students' level of student engagement can predict their persistence. The findings demonstrate that higher levels of engagement are strongly associated with an increased likelihood of persistence among transfer students, underscoring the importance of fostering these engagement opportunities within institutional practices.
