Creating Innovation through Data Science: A Descriptive-Correlational Study Utilizing Data Science for Innovation
Joseph Santalucia
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, St. Thomas University
The research is a descriptive correlational study that investigates new methods for the creation of innovation for institutions. The research addresses the need for organizations to generate a novel form of innovation for their competitiveness and survival. These novel methods in the generation of innovation include using an organization's big data, data science principles, and data-driven decision making (DDDM). The three research questions each of them covering the different methods. The instrument of data collection that the research questions utilized was the quantitative data collection method of questionnaires. The instrument was an online questionnaire that was emailed to the sample of the population. The number of surveys that were completed was thirty. The three research questions have a null and not null hypothesis that, through the creation of a statistical analysis model of chi-squared of regression and multiple linear regression, validates the not null hypothesis of each of the three research questions. A novel framework was developed that will be utilized for the future creation of innovation for business and education fields. The study provides implications in business, organizations, and education concerning the original generation of innovation. Some of these implications include how through big data, data science, and DDDM, organizations can identify new methods for forming innovation. Also, through the new framework, institutions can increase customer satisfaction by creating new products and services. Through the original framework, organizations can improve their revenue by developing innovative products and services that their customers desire.
