ProQuest LLC, Psy.D. Dissertation, University of Arizona Global Campus
This Delphi study was conducted to identify the best practices used by certified school psychologists and school counselors who must provide guidance and support to parents of children with ASD in the rural area of Kent County Delaware. A total of nine participants provided consent to participate in the study. There were four school psychologists and five school counselors. The study was conducted in four rounds via Survey Monkey. Responses in each round provided consensus for the preceding round up to three rounds. Round four was the validation round. The best practices that panelists utilized consisted of Individual Counseling using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Crisis Intervention using Suicide Intervention Techniques, Group Therapy and Social Skill Development, Case Management using the Strengths Model, and Multidisciplinary Collaboration Models. Study findings show that certified school psychologists and school counselors most frequently used Multidisciplinary Collaboration Models as the best practice in providing guidance and supports to families of children with autism in rural areas. The study findings may be limited because of the low response rate among study participants. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
