Jiang, Xiaoyan
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Delaware State University
In response to the challenges in higher education in China and the need to advance the servant leadership theory and experiential learning theory developed in the West, the current study qualitatively explores how service-learning affects students' leadership development at universities in China. The purpose is to understand how experiential learning theory affects student growth and servant leadership on Chinese college students' leadership development. In this comparative case study analysis, three case studies relative to service-learning in Chinese universities were examined and compared to formulate or assess generalizations that extended across multiple cases. This comparative case study analysis allowed the researcher to analyze and identify similarities, differences, and patterns across the three case studies that shared common focuses: service-learning and students' leadership development. The results of this comparative case study analysis may help design co-curricular programs in Chinese higher education.
