The "Woodcock-Camarata Articulation Battery" (WCAB) is an empirically-based instrument intended to test the speech skills of children and adults age two up to ninety plus years. Its administration requires the examinee to look at pictures of predetermined common objects and repeat English words that are associated to the pictures. Results provide information on the level of performance an individual has of simple articulation as well as sounds/phonemes that cover the full range of English sounds. This study is aimed at developing a prototype of the WCAB for use with Spanish speaking population within the United States as well as other Spanish speaking countries. The goals of this study were to: (1) develop a prototype of the WCAB: "Woodcock-Camarata Batteria de Articulacion;" (2) adapt current instructions, manual, format and administration guidelines from its current English version to a Spanish version; (3) make use of vocabulary and expressions that work best across most Spanish idiom and regional usages; (4) provide insight into the difficulties and limitations professionals might encounter when developing and/or adapting speech-language tests from English to Spanish; (5) because this study is preliminary (i.e. prior to a pilot phase) attempt to create a Spanish articulation measure are no statistical analyses; and (6) finally, discussion of findings, limitations and implications for the practice of school psychology in the United States as well as around the world are presented.
