The Effectiveness of a Crisis Intervention Model on a University Campus: A Qualitative Case Study
Wells, Jack R.
ProQuest LLC, Psy.D. Dissertation, The University of the Rockies
The crisis intervention model utilized at a counseling center on a major university campus (CCMUC) was qualitatively analyzed for effectiveness. In this case study, each clinician was interviewed to determine their professional perspective of the definition of crisis, how the clinician implemented crisis management, and the specific techniques and methods utilized during the crisis counseling process. The research hypotheses, which was the foundation of the semi-structured interviews, primarily concerned the uniformity with which the clinicians managed clients in crisis. The data collected suggested overall consistency within the clinicians' understanding of crisis, the process of crisis treatment, and the methods used as a part of the crisis treatment process. Furthermore, the interviews suggested consistency with previous research. Future research in crisis treatment tailored for the university setting is necessary to provide further improvement of crisis treatment processes.
