Wellness Matters
Arteaga, Brenda
Principal, v91 n1 p14-16 Sep-Oct 2011
Creating a healthier school in today's world of budget cuts and seemingly endless to-do lists is not only possible, but it is also imperative. Beyond the health implications, one of the most compelling reasons for creating healthier schools is that wellness serves as a power booster for learning. Numerous studies have documented what educators have observed for years: Healthy students learn better and tend to exhibit more positive behavior in the classroom, among other benefits. This spotlight on a Houston school shows that gains can be made when school and district unite to nurture healthy students.
