Nature Friendly Schools: Our Wild Journey
Clark, Matt
Primary Science, n171 p23-26 Jan 2022
Nature Friendly Schools (NFS) is a groundbreaking project funded by the UK Department for Education and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs with support from Natural England. It works in partnership with many organisations including the Wildlife Trusts, Young Minds and the Field Studies Council. By developing teachers' confidence and ability to promote outdoor learning in schools, and assisting the greening of school grounds, NFS is giving thousands of children from some of the most disadvantaged areas in England the opportunity to get closer to nature, benefiting their learning, health and wellbeing, and care and concern for the environment. The Burlington Junior School's journey with Nature Friendly Schools began in March 2020, after the school's science coordinator responded to an invitation to take part in the first year of this project.
