The udu is a traditional Nigerian percussion instrument that can be thought of as a Helmholtz resonator with two apertures. We use a simple two-particle mechanical analogue to study the behaviour of such a resonator and find that the model describes quite well the main features of udu acoustics.

Analyzes the classroom interaction pattern of physics teacher trainees in a Nigerian college of education. Findings include: more than half of the lesson was a monologue, and there is a significant relationship between classroom interaction patterns and attitudes towards the teaching profession. Results obtained from a test administered to form five Nigerian students (aged 15-17) indicate that misconceptions in physics appear to be widespread among these students in roughly the same way as among South African students.
