Exercise may be a useful element in teaching diabetic children to control the disease. Controlling glucose levels during exercise requires close regulation of diet and insulin. A study of eight diabetic adolescents with moderately well-controlled diabetes concludes that recreational activities are as effective in lowering blood glucose levels as structured exercise.
