Atar, Cihat; Erdem, Cahit; Koçyigit, Mehmet
Online Submission, The Journal of Academic Social Science Studies n57 p227-244 Sum 2017
The aim of this study is to define the problems, expectations and suggestions of graduate and postgraduate international students at a state university in Newcastle upon Tyne, the United Kingdom (henceforth UK). Internationalization has recently be-come the trend and a major component in the current and future graduate education throughout the world. Consequently, studying this area in a country, the UK, which has a long experience of international education will be a considerable contribution to the field. In this study, problems, expectations and suggestions for solutions mentioned by international students studying at a state university in Newcastle upon Tyne are examined. This is a qualitative and descriptive survey research. For data collection, snowball sampling method is used. The sample consists of 21 voluntary students studying at a state university in Newcastle upon Tyne in the academic year of 2014-2015. A semi-structured interview form adapted from a previous study (Koçyigit and Erdem, 2015) by the researchers is used as the data collection tool. Eight questions are directed to the sample group. The questions are prepared in English. Descriptive analysis method is used for data analysis. The findings of this study have implications for internationalization in developing countries, understanding the internationalization of education, the expectations of students doing graduate and postgraduate studies and the effect of the facilities in a city on university choices.
