This report presents enrollment data for the Maryland public schools. School systems reported individual student-level data that were edited and aggregated to school system and state levels. The report categorizes data by race/ethnicity, gender, and grade level. In September 2010 there were a total of 852,211 students: 436,830 male students and 415,381 female students in membership. By race the totals were: American Indian/Alaskan Native Students: 3,047; Asian Students: 48,693; African American Students: 305,310; Hispanic Students: 98,404; Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander Students: 1,246; Two or More Race Students: 29,507; and White Students: 366,004. Enrollment has increased from 1999 to 2010 by 0.4%. The enrollment increased from 1999 to 2010 in all but ten of the state's school systems. In conjunction with increases in student enrollment, the number of schools reporting in 2010 were 1,452 with 55% representing elementary schools. Fifteen tables contain data about Maryland's enrolled students. [For earlier reports, see ED430054 (Sep 30, 1998) and ED419010 (Sep 30, 1997).]
