Summer Camp: Language Learning beyond the Walls--A Grassroots Model for Summer Immersion Camp
Seewald, Amanda
Learning Languages, v17 n2 p18-21 Spr 2012
In efforts to improve, expand and inspire language learning to become a basic and essential component of the landscape of the educational system, one must reach out beyond the walls of the classroom to engage learners early. Real-world learning and energized, playful, interactive language experiences that inspire can drastically change the perception of language learning for students and their families and eventually all community members. American communities have many of the natural ties that can help create opportunities for learning that get students out of the mindset that language learning is confined to the academic year or day. In this article, the author explains the role, development, implementation and observed outcomes of local summer language camps.
