Discusses the educational implications of the street as a socializing agent for African-American youth, particularly adolescents. Describes projects developed by the Rural Organizing and Cultural Center in Holmes County (Mississippi) as examples of programs that successfully reach street experienced youth. (JB)

Identifies the need for educational reformers to address the psychological problems of low-income urban and rural minority students.
