Sommerstein, Alan H. – Journal of Linguistics, 1975
This paper discusses the problem of drawing a boundary between morpholexical and morphophonemic phenomena within a generative model of phonology. Criteria for classifying alternations are set down and rules are examined in light of these criteria. (CHK)
Descriptors: Generative Phonology, Lexicology, Linguistic Theory, Morphemes

Zwicky, Arnold M. – Journal of Linguistics, 1974
Revised version of an inaugural lecture at Ohio State University, November 29, 1971; research supported by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. (DD)

Sommerstein, Alan H. – Journal of Linguistics, 1974
Descriptors: Distinctive Features (Language), Linguistic Theory, Morphemes, Morphophonemics

Huddleston, Rodney – Journal of Linguistics, 1973
Discusses formalized systems for representing grammatical structure. (DD)
Descriptors: Distinctive Features (Language), Generative Grammar, Morphology (Languages), Morphophonemics

Fudge, Erik C. – Journal of Linguistics, 1987
Discusses the types of arguments available for settling questions of phonological constituency. On the basis of these arguments the most frequently assumed syllable structure is selected in which the relationship between "Peak" and "Coda" is closer than that between "Peak" and "Onset." (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Consonants, Educational Games, English, Error Analysis (Language)

Spencer, Andrew – Journal of Linguistics, 1986
Presents: (1) the basic facts of vowel-zero alternations and palatalization in Polish; (2) a nonlinear account of the vowel-zero alternations; (3) a reanalysis of palatalization facts in terms of morpholexical rules; and (4) speculations relating to learnability considerations and the nature of linguistic theory construction. Abu-Salim, I. M. – Journal of Linguistics, 1987
The autosegmental rule of vowel harmony (VH) in Palestinian Arabic is shown to be constrained simultaneously by metrical and segmental boundaries. The indicative prefix bi- is no longer an exception to VH if a structure is assumed that disallows the prefix from sharing a foot with the stem, consequently blocking VH. (Author/LMO)
