Moffat, Gene H. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1972
Descriptors: Conditioning, Data Analysis, Extinction (Psychology), Operant Conditioning

Moffat, Gene H.; Miller, Frank D. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1971
Descriptors: Auditory Stimuli, Conditioning, Preschool Children, Responses

Enright, Mary K.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1983
A total of 30 infants with an average age of 83.4 days were trained for one l8-minute, two nine-minute, or three six-minute sessions separated by 24-hour intervals in order to investigate long-term retention of operant foot kicking acquired in the mobile conjugative reinforcement paradigm. (Author/CI)

Clifton, Rachel Keen – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1974
Descriptors: Conditioning, Heart Rate, Infant Behavior, Neonates

Sharpley, Christopher F. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1988
Investigated the application of verbal praise as a reward with 84 third and fourth grade children who completed a digit-symbol coding task under contingent versus noncontingent and direct versus implicit reward conditions. Noncontingent rewards possessed no significant reinforcer effect under either reward condition. (SKC)
Descriptors: Classical Conditioning, Psychological Studies, Reinforcement, Rewards

Smeets, Paul M.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1997
Investigated simultaneous occurrence of emergent stimulus-response relations (functional equivalence) and stimulus-stimulus relations (stimulus equivalence). Trained 4- and 5-year olds to emit specified responses to pairs of stimuli in one setting (original training) and to emit other responses to one member of each pair in another setting…

McKenzie, Beryl; Day, R. H. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1971
An operant conditioning technique was used to study visual discrimination of simple patterns by infants aged 6-12 weeks. The appropriate direction of head turning to the patterns was developed and maintained by social reinforcement. Results showed that visual discriminative control of the direction of head turning can be achieved. (WY)

Kymissis, Effie; Poulson, Claire L. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1994
Five male preschool children were studied to determine the extent to which the generalized motor imitation model applies to vocal imitation. The use of a reinforced-imitation condition produced a systematic increase in verbal matching responses among three of the five children, which is consistent with previous studies. (SW)

Brassell, William R.; Kaye, Herbert – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1974
Descriptors: Behavior Change, Extinction (Psychology), Feedback, Infant Behavior

Bloom, Kathleen; Esposito, Anita – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1975
Presents two studies which investigated the effects of social stimulation on infant's vocalization rates. Experiment I focused on response-contingent and response-independent social stimulation. Experiment II focused on continuous or omitted social stimulation. In both studies, social stimulation increased vocalization and the rate of responding…

Descriptors: Conditioning, Discrimination Learning, Extinction (Psychology), Males

Droit, Sylvie – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1994
Investigated the role of an external clock in two temporal conditioning situations involving three-year olds. One situation required the spacing of responses to visual stimuli; the other, producing a response for a set duration. Found that the presence of the clock increased the efficiency of performance. (SW)

Abravanel, Eugene; DeYong, Nanette G. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1991
Infants averaging 5 weeks and 12 weeks of age were presented with object models and a live model to determine whether infants reliably responded to the models with movement-matching facial gestures. Object models produced no reliable elicitation of gestures, but the live model increased the incidence of gestures among infants of five weeks. (SH)
