The purpose of this study was to investigate the elementary student's concept of environmental image of favorite places. The research was based on drawings and verbalizations from two groups of students, one rural and the other suburban. Under such conditions, some general trends and conclusions concerning environmental images were observed. (MA)

The development of elementary school children's graphic representations of the large-scale environment in the context of the development of spatial cognition, especially Piagetian theory, is examined. Presented are the findings of questionnaires mailed to the directors of 160 nature centers which provided environmental education programs for elementary school children in thirty-four states. The figures indicate that specific environmental attitude objectives need to be developed by the staffs of these centers. (BT)

Sixth grade students were divided into two groups. Students in one group received instruction on water conservation using expository and discovery activities. Evaluated is the impact of the landscape upon children in 21 schools in England. Past and present experiences of 8- to 11-year-old children were measured. Results indicate that both past and present experiences make a small but significant contribution to the children's development of botanical knowledge and environmental dispositions. (Author/CW)
