Peer preferences and perceptions of 258 African-American and 401 White third through fifth graders (313 males and 346 females) attending either majority White or majority African-American classrooms were studied. Racial minority status is associated with peer rejection of girls but not boys. Results support the subjective culture hypothesis. (SLD)

Effects of a theoretically based LOGO programing environment on executive metacognitive abilities were studied for 48 third graders who took pretests and posttests after LOGO training or no training. School experiences do affect self-esteem, although the impact varied from year to year and discipline to discipline. Overall climate and teacher feedback influence academic and global self-esteem. Social and personal concomitants of exceptional academic capability in the context of various educational settings were studied, using 143 fifth-, 118 eighth-, and 93 tenth-grade gifted students.
