Results of a 12-year study of counseling problems encountered by resident assistants indicated that roommate conflicts, alcohol use, academic problems, and student self-reliance are the most frequent problems. Trends are noted, and implications for staff training are identified. (Author/ABB)

Used college housing litigation as a data base to determine if a shift took place in campus housing after 1968 from constitutionalism to consumerism. Analyses of the data indicated that consumerism in the form of litigation to remedy unrealized expectations or perceived injustices has significantly increased in college housing. (LLL)

Questions (N=40) were tested for their ability to discriminate compatible roommates. A stepwise discriminant analysis selected 15 items for inclusion in a discriminant function that, when used to reclassify pairs, was 90 percent accurate. The question that contributed most to discriminating the groups was weekday bedtime. (Author)

The impact of three kinds of room visitation options on academic achievement was assessed for college students. Grade point average was used as the measure of achievement. Surveyed graduate housing assistants (N=147) to determine what factors affected their choice and perceived job satisfaction. Results showed most assistants were unmarried master's degree students who chose a housing assistantship for personal satisfaction and learning experiences. Most found the experience satisfying.
